A super cricket sunday

It's a great day for Indian cricket, U-19 winning the world cup and Indian team beating Australia convincingly in the first final of VB series.

Congratulations to the U-19 team for their superb win. Their consistency has been incredible: they won all the matches in the world cup. They are worthy victors and deserved it fully.

While U-19 was winning in Kaulalampur, another great story was unfolding in Sydney,Australia a few hours earlier. Indian senior team convincingly, thoroughly and comprehensively beat Australian team in the first final. The victory was so emphatic that India won by 6 wickets with a good four overs to spare.

As has been the case throughout the down under series, Indian bowlers bowled brillliantly with the lone exception of Pathan, who had a horrible day with the ball. It's something he would wish to forget as if it never happened.

Praveen Kumar set up Gilchrist to hit him out of the park but he failed to clear and got out caught at mid-on. Ponting--playing a series he would like to forget--has failed again. A careless pull of slow-medium Praveen kumar's delivery spelled the end of his innings. I hope his barren form continues everytime he plays India.

Hayden and Symonds, especially Hayden took the game to Indians with his big hitting and caused more than a worry to bowlers. Then came on the the spin duo, Bhajji and chawla and bowled a great spell in tandem.

Symonds patience more than run out and tried a big shot to rip Bhajji apart but like Gilchrist he too failed and was caught in deep. Not a longwhile later, Bhajji got the important wicket of Hayden, Chawla made Hayden's catch look so easy.

The celebration of Hayden's dismissal by Bhajji and Yuvraj must been a slap across the face of Hayden who wanted a fight with Ishant sharma in ring. Bhajji and Yuvraj exchanged a few fake punches at each other as Hayden walked toward the pavilian. What a sight that was !!!
This was the icing on the cake after Bhajji got the two big burly Aussie players: Symonds and Hayden.

Bhajji, as the cliché goes, has had the last laugh.

The Indian chase was all about one player(may be two, given Rohit sharma's superb performance under such pressure.)- The great Sachin Tendulkar. As I was watching the way
he batted, I felt he knew the importance of each innings and knew age was not on his side and must make each innings count.

He doesn't want to get out playing a carelss or silly shot. This is only bad news for the bowlers across the world. Oh boy, ain't I pleased !!

My friend asked me who would win the match, "if Sachin stayed till 40th over, India would win," I said. But it seemed he did not want to get out today. Except for the inside edge which miraculously missed the stumps(it was miraculous indeed for he got out in that fashion a good number of times lately), he never looked troubled at all and stroked the ball with brilliant timing.

Gambhir missed out on the opportunity with his bad running. I fail to fathom what value does Uthappa bring to the team and completely do not understand his selection ahead of sehwag's. This is something that must be changed. Dhoni got his selection prefectly correct except this one.

Rohit sharma batted like a first fresh monsoon rain after a dry summer. His technique was excellent and his approach to the game is something one would hope for after years of international cricket. He looked calm, composed and gave a feeling that he belonged there. As the experts were saying, I too wish he carries on like this and tries to fill the big hole that will be left when The God retires in test cricket.

Today it was all about India. As Ricky ponting wrote in his column, it seems the third final won't be needed.
