What next ???

If you don't give a damn about cricket, don't read it.

Really, what next? Should I mention what I am talking about? One bad game against Bangladesh screwed us, big time. One may argue that we could have beaten Sri Lanka, but one knew that would be very difficult. I will not dwell into the details(except a few, I couldn't resist) of why and how we lost. Media has already taken that trouble and saved us. I wonder how much of free time they've got.

India lost. So what? It's not the end of the world. They win a few games and we forget about it and go crazy about the same cricketers whom we are ridiculing today.

The saddest thing I have ever seen in cricket was when India lost a test match to Pakistan in 1999 at Chennai by a slender margin. Nothing would upset me more in cricket. Yes, 2003 world cup final did upset me and I still wonder what was Ganguly thinking on that day when he put Aussies to bat after winning the toss.

Now talking of some details-didn't I say I couldn't resist- Dravid hasn't shown anything great as a captain. He chose a wrong team to play Sri Lanka. Only a fool would have left Kumble out and taken Harbhajan. It was a huge blunder. I was totally unimpressed. And another mistake was the selection of Uthappa after he had failed to show any intent to stay at crease in the previous two matches. When you play a do-or-die match you want the right people. And it was quite evident that Uthappa was not the right man there up in the order. Pathan was the automatic choice, who would (may be) have done something with the bat or ball on his day.

And the batsmen showed frazzled nerves and were totally clueless what's going on around them. It looked as though they believed they would never chase 255. Before India's batting started, I called up my friend and said, "it reminds of the 1996 semi-final". And the result was pretty much the same. Sri Lanka kicked us out of the world cup for the second time.

Financial analysts have started making the estimations how much India Inc would lose with this result. I really don't give a damn about it. They deserved it. They put all their money on the wrong sport. It was a gamble and you were bound to lose someday.

It's all our mistake. We've never bothered to give other sports their due and made gods out of the cricketers. It's time we concentrated on other sports like Hockey, which is our national game in case you have forgotten, shooting, Athletics, Chess etc..There is so much talent but what's lacking is the facilities and the system to harness the talent. That requires good infrastructure and system, which requires money. Big companies must advertise with the alternative-sports persons. This will increase the awareness and popularity which in turn will bring the money that the sport needs.

p.s: BCCI will announce that they will look into what's gone wrong and select a young, talented team and coach for 2011. And I can't help laughing.
