Indifference

As I promised, here is the post.

Let me borrow a quote that serves as a prelude.

"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.." - Elie Wiesel

Read that again. It is a very simple quote with lot of meaning. I actually missed its full meaning in first read. I took note of it only when I received it second time from a friend.

Indifference is the greatest enemy against every-known good thing whether its love, art, faith or life.

I take it that we are no strangers to being the source or victim of indifference as it happens regularly in day to day life.

We tend to be indifferent to strangers and situations which won't affect us directly. But being indifferent to friends is entirely different. In January, my friend's husband passed away at a very young age. It was a terribly sad thing to happen in the first place. Secondly, many of my friends acted as if nothing happened. Nobody wanted to talk about it. It seemed very strange to me. These were the same people who planned weeks in advance where to have the next get together etc..

I wrote the above lines some weeks back and now I do not feel like completing this post. I was planning to write my personal experience which resulted in disappointment despite my efforts but, once I read the following quote, I realised it's not worth the effort.

"Look not mournfully into the past, It comes not back again. Wisely improve the present. It is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future, without fear." - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
