The calm before the storm

Today evening 6pm will mark the debut of a revolutionary mobile device, as Steve Jobs puts it.Yes, iPhone(JesusPhone as some started calling it) goes on sale at 6PM in the USA today. It has already received rave reviews on how well it does the things that it does and the hype is not really hype, after all. Read it here. Many predicted Apple would not be able to make a decent phone and struggle to launch it on time. But with the early reviews rating this product very highly and Apple indeed sticking to their launch plan, they would feel they bit more than they can chew.

It looks cool, trendy and the way one operates it has never been done before. It works great as an internet device with wi-fi connectivity. Not to mention the superb browser. It works as a video ipod. And it has Apple logo on it.

The only downside I think is it's price. A look at the financial angle tells how expensive it is. Maybe not considering the how well it works and how cool it looks.

The minimum charges are
A 4GB iPhone - $499

Activation fee - $36

Minimum price plan per month - $60

Minimum contract period - 24 months

That amounts to $1975 and it's the minimum one must spend to have iPhone. Over a period of 2 years, though. As you can see it does not come cheap, does it?

I have no reason to believe it will not be a success. In fact I believe it's going to be a huge success. It's a phone which does things very differently from others' and very easily.

I read an article on TheRegister where they wrote why Apple will not sell 10million iPhones in 2008. It's like someone remarking why Boca can not beat Gremio for Copa Libertadores. And Boca went on to win it trashing Gremio 5-0 over two legs(goal.com apparently took that column off their site after Boca won!!). It just goes to show how these so called experts get their predictions pathetically wrong.

Let's just wait and see how the buyers take to the iPhone. We will know more about it once it's out.

It's really not calm before the storm as queues at Apple stores getting longer and longer and the media can't seem to stop talking about it..

In other news...

Argentina blasted USA 4-1 in Copa America.

Ronaldinho makes a Milan trip.

Sania mirza crashes out of Wimbledon in the first round - this is actually not news.
