Angeethi

I reported back at bangalore office on Thursday and we decided to go for bowling and dinner. Lately, bowling is the only fun we seem to have. when something good happens or someone buys something, then we have a bowling treat. This time, it was my turn.

We(DM,Vishy,Basu and I) left office around 6:30 and made it to Amoeba by 7:30, I did not expect us to reach so early:bangalore traffic has improved. We played couple of games and it was 9 and we were looking for a place to go and have dinner. Finally, we settled on Angeethi, a punjabi dhaba, located very close to church street. We walked down to this place from Amoeba.

Angeethi gives a feel of a punjabi dhaba with a mix of modern electronics like AC. It is located on 4th floor, hence they use lift. Imagine taking a lift to go to a dhaba!! Anyway, we got our table and ordered few dishes and ate well. Basu left early(he timed it well so as he would not have to pay the bill, I am just joking) as he had to catch up with his fiance.

And the bill arrived, we just gave a cursory(and then a detailed one) look to verify everything was ok. We were surprised to see that they have charged us Rs45 a bottle for mineral water, which was in fact priced at Rs12. The MRP(maximum retail price) of the mineral bottle was Rs12 and we were in no mood to pay nearly 4 times its price. Vishy and I once faced with similar problem and we argued about it with the shopkeeper and paid only MRP. So we thought let's fight about it one more time. We first talked to the waiter, he asked us to talk to the manager at ground floor. We anyway paid the bill(may be that was a mistake?) and came down to ground floor and talked about it with the manager at desk.

He said that is what they charge for a bottle of mineral bottle, although, they have not provided any service whatsoever-they bought the mineral water bottles from Kinley and just supplied the same to us. The waiter did not even serve the water, he kept the bottles on the table and left.

We have explained to the manager that Supreme Court has ordered all the hotels(hotels with stars and hotels without stars as well) not to charge more than the MRP if they do not serve. We tried put some sense into those guys saying it was a violation of Supre Court order. He said all the star hotels do it and so do we.

As it was taking time, DM went back to Amoeba to get his car and we continued the discussion. One more guy popped-in and joined the on-going discussion. His name was Toni, I forgot his last name, but I have his card. He told that waiters do not open water bottles and just keep them on the table so that guests know that they are getting real mineral water. So it proves that they do not provide any service, which is against the ruling of Supreme Court. He said he was also aware of the Supreme Court order, but insisted that he could not do anything about it. We took his card and left, there was nothing more we could do. And it got quite late, we argued with those people for 20 minutes. At least we fought with them.

What really surprised me was, the indifference of people eating at this place to this open robbery. It seemed like they did not bother. May be they made money winning few lotteries, I certainly did not win any lottery. We were basically robbed of Rs66 for two bottles of mineral water. I think we should fight for our rights when we know that we are being cheated.

If you are reading this, do not go to Angeethi. Even if you go, do refuse to pay Rs45 for a water bottle which costs only Rs12.
