Another Indian dies in Afghanistan

Suryanarayana, an Indian engineer working on a development project in Afghanistan, was abducted and killed by Taliban. Firstly it is an unethical and inhuman act and calls for a strong condemnation by the influential nations and organizations. Secondly and more dangerously, it also reflects the failure of Indian government yet again.

The honourable Union minister for Overseas Indian Affairs, Vayalar Ravi said that his government did not have a chance to negotiate with Taliban. It seems very incredible to me that Taliban adopts different policies for citizens of different countries. They held an American journalist hostage for nearly three months and killed two Indians within days of kidnapping. It's difficult to believe that even Taliban is not unbiased.

Regardless of what Taliban does, it reminds me of the fact that the life of an Indian has no value not just within India but outside as well. A friend narrated me an incident that happened when he was living in Munich, Germany. On a weekend, he went to Chiemsee, a tourist attraction around 85km from Munich. He had noticed that a man was fainted while walking and a lady calling for help. In less than three minutes two ambulances appeared on the scene and took care of that old man. It just shows that the value of a life varies from country to country. I am not concerned about what Taliban does, I am more concerned with what my country does.

The above mentioned minister also said 'the dastardly act was done even before the special team could hold discussions with the abductors'."Such matters are of national importance. Do not make it a political controversy and try to get some political mileage out of this. This should be treated as a national challenge."

I wonder what would he say if his own offspring was kidnapped and killed.

It is time our government took these issues very seriously at least when the lives of Indian is involved. The utmost concern for a government must be protection of its citizens but what else can we expect when our ministers are handling more national-important matters like reservation and more reservations in every possibly conceivable institution.

I feel we have got only ourselves to blame for all this. It's a shame on us for electing these politicians time and again forgetting the blunders they committed during their tenure. We foolishly cast our votes and blame the politicians. It is us that must be blamed. We committed the original sin. We gave them a chance to gamble with our lives. It is us that must awake to this reality.
