varanasi

I do not want to start this blog with any controversial subject, but I can't help worrying about what happened at varanasi yesterday. Two bombs were blasted at Railway station and Hanuman temple. If we exercise our gray cells, we see that it is not the first time a temple was attacked:Aksharadham and Ramajanmabhoomi being the targets not long ago. Temples have been becoming the soft targets for extremists and terrorists, not to mention the academic institutions(remember the attack on IISc!).

Varanasi holds a special place for all hindus. It is the place all hindus want to visit in a lifetime. This extreme attack is an indication that no establishment is not within the reach of terrorists, especially if it is a hindu establishment, may it be a temple or a train compartment. The plethora of attacks on hindu establishments by islamic terrorists is alarming and calls for immediate action. But what we witness is a cursory statement by concerned minister and officials promising to nab the people behind the attacks and conveniently forget about it in no time. Obviously they can not take any severe measures lest they will lose minority votes. What about majority votes??

It would be a different proposition altogether if any non-hindu establishment was attacked, the amnesty international crying of voilation of human rights and pathetic security measures to protect the minority. If a hindu dies in India, it increases the secular image of India but if a non-hindu dies it reflects India's intolerance and hard-hindutva ideology. What a pity!!!

Anyway, hindus will be tolerant as they always have been and get on with life but it may not be long begore something like this happens again. And we go through the same cycle. Long live secular India and its secular politicians.
