Stupid suggestions or what!!!

Finally the much awaited BCCI meeting took place and as widely believed no important and controversial decision was taken except for the limit on number of endorsements for players and scrapping contract system. BCCI has failed to come up with a game plan for the betterment of cricket in India.

Some of the things that made me laugh are the suggestions given by Rahul Dravid to improving Indian cricket.

1. A streamlined selection process - This indeed is a good decision.
2. Better team management with the appointment of a full-time team manager.
3. Better team management with the appointment of a full-time media manager.

I fail to fathom why cricketers need a full-time media manager. I used to think cricket is all about going out there in the middle and playing to the best of one's ability. Are cricketers full-time models now to be in such dire need of a full-time media manager?

I, again,am disappointed with Dravid for his suggestions when what's required was a forthright approach to the problem, at least by the captain. He should be suggesting the development of a pool of players who could replace the playing eleven should the need arise and things like that.

And what steps did former captains suggest: an equally ridiculous one- cut down the number of endorsements each player can have with his sponsors. An utterly ridiculous suggestion which is against the very fundamental right of freedom each individual is entitled to. How can BCCI put a cap on the number of endorsements for each player when the players are not contracted with BCCI. The right to earn money is the prerogative of every individual. If one appeals against this, BCCI will be censured in no time by a half-decent Judge.

By abolishing contract system BCCI has given complete freedom to the players. Now players can skip a match if they have a more important ad shoot. How will BCCI stop that? If there was a contract system in place, they could have had certain rights on players which now, is not possible. It looks as though players will work with BCCI as consultants. I do not mean to support the contract system, but the current situation is worse than the one before.

Let's wait and see how Indian cricket story unfolds from here.
